How do I choose between long-throw and short-throw laser projectors?
Direct answerChoose by installation distance. Long-throw lenses are for long-distance, large-format images such as building facades and towers. Short-throw lenses are for tight spaces, indoor exhibitions and floor installations where the projector sits close to the surface.
Quick Selection Guide
| Installation situation | Recommended type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Long distance with limited rigging space | Long-throw lens | Building facade, tower, bridge |
| Short distance, large image required | Short-throw lens | Indoor wall, museum gallery, shop window |
| Floor or ceiling-mounted in a room | Short-throw lens | Immersive room, exhibition booth |
| Long-distance aerial projection | Long-throw lens | Landmark and riverfront shows |
How to Calculate Before You Order
- Divide the required image width by the projector throw ratio to get the mounting distance
- Check that the mounting position can reach that distance without blocking sight lines or walkways
- Confirm the planned image size still fits the surface after lens shift and keystone correction
- Leave a small margin for on-site adjustment instead of designing to the exact limit
Send the mounting distance and target image size together, and the right lens can be confirmed before the order is placed.
